Wangan Midnight is an arcade racing game built around split-screen battles on Tokyo's expressways. Single-player mode follows a character taking on tougher rivals across eight segmented tracks while navigating shifting traffic patterns. When enemies appear, races trigger with an SP meter draining for the trailing driver until time expires or one car loses all energy. Time Attack and local Versus modes round out the options with licensed Mitsubishi, Nissan and Subaru vehicles. The split-screen design and real-time traffic elements set it apart from standard racing fare. Developed by Genki in 2001, it adapts the manga's street racing spirit with direct one-on-one confrontations. Players appreciate the tight handling and competitive multiplayer without modern fatigue mechanics. The SP system adds tension without complicating the core drift-and-speed formula.
