"The Chaos Wastes introduces a mass of randomness and unpredictability to your playthrough, changing up things as fundamental as the construction of levels, with certain paths being blocked off, or starting and ending points being moved about or even reversed. Loot also takes on a more significant role, as the game isn’t afraid to let you become overpowered, or even just oddly built, with bizarre combinations of boons. All is stripped away after completion. This is Vermintide 2’s endgame — and its best facet. Forget all the cosmetics; forget your “Power Level,” specific equipment, or career. Jump into the Chaos Wastes, with friends, and smash your way through the hordes, relishing in the fact that you’ve no idea what’s next. Since the beginning, Vermintide 2 has had a solid core, capturing much of what makes these kinds of horde games so enduringly popular. But it’s also proven, over time, that it has something new to offer, with The Chaos Wastes adding some much-needed volatility to this endless procession of fantasy brawls."

About Warhammer: Vermintide 2

Fatshark dropped Warhammer: Vermintide 2 on March 8, 2018 as a direct follow-up to their hit debut. This title blends first-person shooter mechanics with heavy melee combat inside the grim warhammer universe. You can play this indie action-RPG on PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One. The game focuses on four-player co-op where you squad up to clear out hordes of Skaven and other chaotic forces. It feels like a gritty dungeon crawler that never lets up the pressure. Players jump into battles using swords, magic, and firearms against waves of enemies. The setting stays true to the dark fantasy lore while offering distinct character classes to master.

Gameplay

You control one of five unique heroes in fast-paced first-person combat. Every session involves pushing through levels filled with Skaven rats and Chaos cultists. You dodge rolling attacks, block heavy strikes, and finish off enemies with specific abilities tied to your class. The combat loop relies on managing stamina and positioning since you can take three hits before dying. Co-op is mandatory for most content as you heal teammates or revive them after a knockdown. You can tackle missions alone but the difficulty spikes significantly without support. Controls feel tight with heavy weapon swings that stagger foes. Unlocking new gear requires grinding through repeated runs to gather materials from defeated enemies.

What Players Think

Players have rated this title 78.7 out of 100 on IGDB based on 147 submissions. The community spends an average of 35 hours completing the main campaign, though full completion takes longer. Only 29.3 percent of players unlock all available achievements. The rarest feat is Pantheon of Heroes with just a 4.20 percent success rate. Review sentiment leans toward positive for the combat system but dips on endgame content availability. Many users praise the tight melee mechanics while others note the lack of variety in later stages. The price has dropped to a historical low of $2.99 on Steam, making it an accessible entry point for new fans.

PlayPile's Take

This game works best if you want chaotic melee action with friends. The $2.99 price tag makes it a steal even if the achievement grind feels tedious. You will likely spend time unlocking gear rather than just finishing the story. It suits players who enjoy high-pressure combat scenarios over narrative depth. Do not expect a solo-friendly experience since the difficulty ramps up quickly without teammates. Stick with the four-player squad to get the most out of the system. The low cost means you can buy it now and decide later if the grind is worth your time.
