About Wasteland 3

Wasteland 3 drops you into a frozen Colorado where Team November got wiped out by a brutal blizzard. You are the only Ranger left standing, and everyone else is either dead or insane. inXile Entertainment released this title back in August 2020 across PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Linux, and Mac systems. It runs as a turn-based tactical RPG that leans hard into story choices rather than fast reflexes. The game asks you to rebuild a reputation from zero while navigating warring factions and buried secrets. You will face lunatics with strange tech and deadly political maneuvering in a world where your decisions dictate the fate of entire cities.

Gameplay

Combat happens on a grid where you order your squad members through cover during slow, methodical turns. You manage action points for movement, shooting, or using special abilities while watching health bars drop under fire. Outside of fights, the game feels like a long text adventure mixed with exploration. You walk around dialogue trees that branch based on your skills and past choices. These conversations determine whether you save a location or watch it burn. The tactical battles require you to flank enemies and use environmental hazards. Sessions often stretch for hours as you micromanage ammo counts and squad positioning before moving to the next major story beat.

What Players Think

Critics gave Wasteland 3 a solid Metacritic score of 83 out of 100 while IGDB users rated it an 84.5 based on over one hundred reviews. The community seems deeply invested since average playtime is high and completion rates reflect the depth of the content. There are eighty-six achievements to unlock, but only nineteen point three percent of players manage to get them all. The hardest trophy is Answering Machine with a mere half percent unlock rate, showing how obscure some paths are. Reviews often highlight the branching storylines as a major selling point that keeps players coming back for multiple runs to see different outcomes.

PlayPile's Take

This title fits anyone who wants deep tactical combat and heavy narrative weight over mindless shooting. The price is standard for a full RPG, and you can spend dozens of hours trying to hit every achievement. Most players will struggle with the rarest unlock, so do not expect to get everything on your first pass. It works best if you enjoy managing squad resources and dealing with messy moral dilemmas. Skip this if you need quick matches or simple controls. The game stands on its own merit without needing a sequel to make sense of its world.

Storyline

You push yourself from the ground. Biting wind claws at your eyes, your throat. Every inch of your body hurts, but you are alive. Your squadmates are not. They lie motionless, frozen beneath the bloody snow. You will join them if you don’t get out of this storm. A light flickers in the howling dark, over a distant hill. Wincing, you set off towards it.
