About

Waxworks is a first-person RPG built around tight corridor crawling and point-and-click exploration. You navigate dimly lit dungeons collecting gear and solving logic puzzles while fending off hordes of grotesque enemies. Combat lets you aim attacks at specific limbs or heads though any progress you make resets at the end of each level. Every run starts fresh with no carried-over weapons or experience making longer play sessions feel riskier. The Amiga and DOS versions lean into clunky but functional sprite work and a relentless sense of claustrophobia. The game’s biggest hook is its punishing reset system which ensures no two playthroughs feel the same. While some players found the repetitive level design frustrating others praised the way it forces creative use of limited tools. With no modern remaster in sight Waxworks remains a niche artifact of early 90s dungeon design. Its blend of permadeath and body part targeting mechanics earned a small cult following though completion rates rarely topped 20% even among die-hards.
