"Deserving praise for encapsulating the sort of Japanese-themed action RPG shenanigans that PC owners rarely glimpse, it's nonetheless fair to say that Ghostlight's latest is far from perfect. For those willing to forgive its more archaically-rooted foibles however, Way of the Samurai 4 very often proves to be a hugely entertaining prospect while providing a gleefully quirky look at one of the most enticing and formative periods of Japanese history."

Way of the Samurai 3 drops you into Japan's warring Sengoku era as a lone sword-for-hire. Your decisions, allying with clans, committing acts of violence or walking away, shape your reputation and the world around you. The open world lets you wander villages, cross blood-soaked battlefields and infiltrate fortified castles, each teeming with characters you can aid, abandon or manipulate. Combat blends fast-paced melee with strategic positioning while dialogue choices and morality systems add layers to every encounter. What sets this apart is the weight of every action. Betraying a village for gold might open new alliances later while sparing an enemy could cost you in a future fight. Though released in 2008 its intricate world design and branching narratives still earn praise from fans for offering a deeply personal samurai experience. With over 50 endings and a cast of more than 200 unique NPCs your path through the chaos is as unpredictable as history itself.
