What the Duck is a quirky action RPG where you play a hero bonded with a duckling in a world of spiritual animals. Explore seven open zones filled with combat, quests, and puzzles while teaming up with a chameleon-wielding inventor. Battles mix hack-and-slash mechanics with timed dodges, and exploration often revolves around using your duck companion to access hidden areas. A core loop involves crafting weapons through a goofy but clever system where you mimic online tutorials to forge tools like a gravity-defying RainBow. The game’s charm lies in its absurd premise and the Rhymesmith crafting mechanic, which turns weapon creation into a mini rhythm game. Community data shows 44 achievements with an 11% average unlock rate, including the elusive "ACollector" (2.5% rate) for maxing out a crafting tree. Released on PC and Switch in late 2023, it balances RPG progression with lighthearted humor, letting you hack enemies, solve environmental puzzles, and obsess over optimizing your duck’s abilities.
Illy and The Duckling joins forces with Hellen Drunkren, a young and smart inventor, whose spiritual animal is a charming chameleon. Together, they will go on a journey about revenge and self acceptance. Gameplay The core gameplay consists in combat, exploration and crafting. The player will explore seven different open areas, in which he will find enemies to battle with hack and slash elements, traditional RPG quests to do, puzzles to solve and a lot of exploration, some of it focused on The Duckling. Rhymesmith Another spotlight of the game is the weapon crafting system, called Rhymesmith. The hero craft its own weapons in the game. Since he doesn’t have any idea on how to do it, the character will have to learn as any normal person: watching video tutorials on the internet. The idea of the system is that you are watching a tutorial on Duck Tube and have to reproduce what the Blacksmith does. Mechanically it works as a rhythm game. Craft creative weapons like the RainBow.
