About

Wildfire is a handheld pinball game from Parker Brothers that launched in 1979. It pits one or two players against the screen's flickering LCD as they tilt and maneuver the ball across a digital playfield. The game mimics the physics of traditional pinball with its bumpy ramps and scoring targets while using simple button inputs. Each round requires quick reflexes and precise timing to avoid the ball draining, all set to a clicking sound effect that mimics mechanical pinball machines. The portable design made competitive pinball possible outside arcades when few others existed. Though basic by today's standards, its simulation of real-world mechanics for an electronic game was notable. At the time, it offered a novel way to play with friends on the go, showing how far handheld tech had come in its short history. Its approachable controls and dual-player support helped it stand out among early 80s electronic games.
