About

Xargon is a 1994 DOS platformer where you play Malvineous Havershim, an archaeologist dodging hazards and enemies across three distinct volumes. Each level tasks you with locating exits while collecting emeralds used to buy upgrades like health packs or weapon boosts at any time. Progression hinges on balancing resource management with quick reflexes as you navigate traps and combat. The game splits its focus between puzzle-like exploration and straightforward platforming challenges, with each volume introducing new objectives such as dismantling reactors or retrieving hidden artifacts. What sets Xargon apart is its risk-reward system for in-game purchases. Since bought items vanish if you die, players must weigh short-term gains against survival. The three-act structure offers a clear arc, escalating from reactor sabotage to a final showdown with the titular villain. Though its 90s DOS roots show, the game remains a niche pick for its blend of permadeath tension and classic platforming. Developed by Epic MegaGames, it’s a lesser-known entry in the genre that still holds up for its tight level design and escalating stakes.
