Xī Yóujì is a 1995 platformer from Funtech that lets you play as Sun Wukong, the Monkey King from Chinese folklore. Navigate side-scrolling levels filled with enemies and obstacles using acrobatic moves and basic combat. The game leans into slapstick humor and references from Journey to the West but simplifies the source material into straightforward platforming challenges. Controls are tight for the era with responsive jumps and attacks. Bright cartoonish visuals pop on the Super A'Can's screen though technical limitations show in some level design. The game’s charm comes from its cheeky tone and recognizable characters reimagined as bumbling foes. While not as technically ambitious as later 16-bit platformers, it offers a brisk experience with 15 levels that mix combat and puzzle elements. No modern preservation data exists but retro communities occasionally highlight its niche take on a classic story. Shorter than most adventures of the time but satisfying for fans of old school 2D action.
A platformer loosely and humorously based on Journey to the West. Players take control of Sun Wukong.
