Yatagarasu is a 2D fighting game built for players who want straightforward controls and tactical depth. With 11 fighters to master, the focus is on timing, parrying, and reading opponents. Each match feels like a test of reflexes and strategy. The mechanics are easy to pick up but demand precision, blocking at the right moment or chaining counters can turn the tide quickly. It plays like a modern take on classic arcade brawls, balancing accessibility with competitive layers. Set against a fictional 1925 Japanese coup, the story threads through single-player modes but takes a backseat to the core combat. Community ratings on IGDB hover around 68.8 out of 100, reflecting a solid but niche experience. The game’s strength lies in its tight gameplay loop and responsive feel, appealing to fans of traditional fighters. It launched in 2015 on PC and arcade platforms, offering local multiplayer for head-to-head challenges. While the historical setting feels loosely sketched, the fights themselves are crisp and rewarding to learn.
On Dec 25th 1925, a Japanese nationalist revolutionary group staged a coup d’etat. The revolutionaries acted swiftly, suppressing the prime minister, police, major corporations, and newspapers. Struggling to react, the old government faction sent the order to a secret information organization ‘Igasei’ to initiate an assassination program called ‘Yatagarasu’ and eliminate the leaders of the coup d’etat.
