Yoshi Racing started life as a 3D prototype for the Super Nintendo before getting rejected by Nintendo. Developer Argonaut Games built it after working on Star Fox and tried to get the green light for a Yoshi racing game. The pitch fell through, reportedly because Nintendo wanted to keep its characters in-house. The team then took the assets and mechanics from this unfinished project to create Croc: Legend of the Gobbos instead. It remains one of those cool bits of gaming history where a lost idea became the foundation for another hit series. Nothing about this title made it to shelves, so there are no community ratings or play counts to share. You can only see screenshots and read about it in old articles like the one from Eurogamer. It stands out as a fascinating example of how game development works behind the scenes where ideas get scrapped but not wasted. This project shows how a single rejected concept can still shape the industry by inspiring future titles. Fans of obscure SNES lore or Argonaut history find this story much more interesting than any finished product might be.
