Yoshi's Woolly World swaps eggs for yarn in a vibrant platformer where you swing, stretch, and weave your way through handcrafted levels. Play as a fuzzy Yoshi who flings colorful yarn balls to tie up enemies, stitch platforms, and figure out blockades. Each level is a patchwork of knitted obstacles and hidden nooks begging to be explored. Local co-op lets two players work together to clear paths and defeat crafty foes like crocheted Goombas. The goal is simple: gather every last collectible to undo a magical yarn-based disaster. The game shines with its tactile level design and playful mechanics. Every stage feels like a 3D origami puzzle where tugging loose threads reveals secret areas or reconfigures terrain. Critics praised its creativity, with a 92% on Metacritic and 8.5/10 from IGN. Players love the accessibility of co-op and the satisfaction of uncovering all 100% of each world. While the story is light, the whimsical art style and inventive gameplay keep it fresh. Over four years after release, it remains a standout for fans of clever platforming.
The game's story revolves around Craft Island, a peaceful island for the Yoshis. One day, Kamek turns all but two of the Yoshis into Wonder Wools as a favor to Baby Bowser, who wishes to use the accumulated yarn to construct a new castle in his name. When the remaining two Yoshis notice Kamek inadvertently dropping Wonder Wools around the areas next to Craft Island, they set out on a quest to collect them all and thus restore all of the unwoven Yoshis. After Baby Bowser is defeated at his castle, Kamek uses his remaining Wonder Wools to make him more powerful. Despite this, Baby Bowser is defeated again, returning all of the remaining unwoven Yoshis back to normal. The Yoshis return to Craft Island, while Baby Bowser takes some time to "think about what he's done".
