Yotsume God: Reunion is a point-and-click adventure wrapped in a visual novel’s storytelling. You play as Mai Sahara, a teen dragged to a remote mountain village for a family visit. Strange masked kids appear, pulling her into a bizarre request that leads to a secluded shrine. There she meets Imigo, a wary resident who reluctantly teams up to help her escape. The game blends dialogue choices with exploration, figuring out a slow-burn mystery tied to Mai’s past and the village’s eerie beliefs. Set in a quiet but unsettling rural Japan, the game leans into folklore and psychological tension. Its strength lies in quiet character moments and a gradually shifting tone that lingers between mundane and surreal. While puzzles are minimal, the focus stays on dialogue and atmosphere, with a runtime of around 8, 10 hours. Players who enjoy narrative-driven adventures with a touch of the uncanny may find its deliberate pacing and cryptic story compelling.
In the middle of a family visit, a pair of masked children appear before Mai Sahara and beseech her to help their mother in pain. She follows them, only to soon find herself at a shrine deep within the mountains that she is not at all familiar with. Imigo, a resident of the shrine, is less than pleased to see Mai at his dwelling and sends her off, but some mysterious power seems to be keen on keeping her there. Only then does Imigo agree to help Mai find a way to leave the shrine safely, and thus begins their journey, with Mai taking a step towards discovering the truth behind her past.
