Yu Gi Oh GX Spirit Caller is a strategy card game for the Nintendo DS that blends school life with competitive dueling. Set at Duel Academy, you play as a student in the Slifer Red dorm navigating strange occurrences tied to a mysterious duel spirit. The game uses a traditional turn-based format with over 1500 cards, letting you build decks to battle opponents in head to head matches. Customize your character’s appearance and engage in story driven duels that mirror key moments from the GX anime, like reclaiming Yugi’s stolen deck. The game stands out for its online Wi-Fi battles and direct ties to the GX series. It follows the first season’s plot through the Dark Zane arc, letting you face off against all seven Shadow Riders and other major anime characters. While the script leans heavily on existing GX material, the inclusion of exclusive characters and the ability to edit your deck between fights keeps the strategy fresh. With over 200 hours of gameplay reported by players, it’s a deep card experience for fans of the franchise.
The player is on a ship, on their way to Duel Academy, with their friends Jaden Yuki and Syrus Truesdale. The player is placed in the Slifer Red dorm, and soon after, strange things begin to happen. As soon as these odd occurrences begin, you start hearing the voice of a duel spirit. This spirit is a good spirit and will help you duel and solve the mysteries surrounding the Duel Academy. The story loosely follows the events of the anime, only the player takes place of Jaden's duels. Such as Dimitri stealing Yugi's Deck, and the player getting it back. The game mostly covers the anime, from the beginning to the Dark Zane arc. Because the game is based on the anime, some major and minor characters will appear. It also includes a lot of characters exclusive to Spirit Caller; they are featured as minor characters. You will later duel all 7 Shadow Riders and other parts of Season One then you will enter a tournament after.
