Yumimi Mix is a 1993 adventure game from Game Arts that blends schoolyard antics with surreal fantasy. You follow Yumimi Yoshizawa, a high schooler pulled into a bizarre chain of events after a dream about magical unicorns. The next day she’s dealing with floating blobs, a love-struck classmate, and a mystery that links her world to a collapsing fantasy realm. Players navigate dialogue choices and scripted scenes to uncover connections between the mundane and the bizarre. The tone shifts unpredictably from awkward teen drama to frantic monster battles, all tied together by a plot that leans into absurdity. The game stands out for its quirky charm and chaotic narrative structure. Though largely forgotten outside niche circles, its mix of everyday high school life and sudden fantasy twists has earned it a cult following. A 1996 Sega Saturn remix expanded the story slightly but kept the same offbeat spirit. The game’s age shows in its presentation, but fans of oddball storytelling and retro visual novels might find its randomness refreshing. Shorter than most school-year-long projects, it’s a brisk dive into ’90s Japan’s weirder gaming experiments.
A seemingly ordinary Japanese high school student named Yumimi Yoshizawa sees a strange dream about a unicorn couple in a magical land. When one of the unicorns suddenly falls through a hole in the ground, Yumimi wakes up, realizing she has fallen out of the bed as well. The following day brings more strange occurrences, such as mysterious hopping blobs and a strange girl who professes her love to Yumimi. Eventually Yumimi and her friends realize that all these events are connected and that it lies in their power to protect our world from monsters.
