Zelda's Adventure flips the usual formula by putting Princess Zelda in the lead role as she treks through Hyrule’s southeast region to rescue captured Link. The game uses a top-down perspective and dungeon-based progression familiar to the series but strips away much of the polish. Players collect seven celestial signs to confront Gannon, navigating linear levels with simplified exploration. Developed by Viridis for the Philips CD-i, it diverges from earlier CD-i Zelda titles with a more rigid structure and less interactive depth. The game’s most notable trait is its rarity as a playable Zelda entry, a setup that never returned. Community reception is mixed, with many citing dated mechanics and lackluster design compared to 1990s Zelda standards. Nintendo itself has disowned the title, leaving it unacknowledged in official series history. Despite its flaws, it remains a peculiar artifact for collectors and completionists.
The evil Gannon has captured and imprisoned the brave hero Link. In order to save him, Zelda has to venture into Tolemac, an uncharted southeastern region of the land of Hyrule, and to collect seven celestial signs to defeat Gannon.
