Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel is a high-speed platformer with humor. You control Zero, a fluffy rodent turned reluctant hero, as he zips across levels filled with traps, enemies, and environmental hazards. The gameplay mixes tight controls with fast-paced running, jumping, and midair maneuvers. Your goal is to rescue his forest from a chainsaw-wielding lumberjack. Each level features checkpoints and collectibles to keep things moving. The difficulty spikes occasionally but never feels unfair. What makes this stand out is Zero’s quirky personality and the game’s playful tone. While similar to other 90s platformers, it adds a layer of charm with its goofy premise and character. It released during a crowded era of 2D action games but carved a niche with its speed and accessibility. The Mega Drive version runs smoother but both SNES and Genesis ports hold up for a quick run. Best played in short bursts, it’s a fun but underappreciated entry in the genre.
