Zoop is a puzzle game where you control a colored shape that shoots at incoming blocks to clear them before they hit the top of the screen. Each shot needs to match the target's color to delete it and any same-colored blocks behind it. Miss a match or hit a different color and your shape swaps hues mid-game. The faster you clear lines the more room you create for new pieces but the pace never lets up as the stack rises relentlessly. Launched in 1995 this title ran on an absurd number of systems from Macs to the Atari Jaguar. Its simple rules hide tricky strategy as color swaps force quick thinking. Players who enjoyed puzzle mechanics with a twist but didn't check its 9.2/10 score on Mac Game World in 1996 might find its blend of reflexes and pattern recognition still holds up.
