38 Studios was an American game development company based in Providence, Rhode Island. It is known for its co-development of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (2012). Founded in Maynard, Massachussetts by Major League Baseball pitcher Curt Schilling in 2006 as Green Monster Games, the studio was planned to develop a fantasy MMORPG with the working title of Copernicus. In 2009, it acquired Big Huge Games, and in 2011, prompted by incentive funding provided by the governor of Rhode Island for companies to relocate to the state, the studio moved to Providence. The studio went bankrupt and folded In 2012 following financial troubles and its inability to make payments on the loan granted by the state of Rhode Island.
