The company was founded on 4th January 1998 as Eden Studios by Stéphane Baudet, Frédéric Jay and David Nadal. All three of them previously worked together at Infogrames as a part of the internal Eden development group. By forming the company, Eden became independent. The studio initially signed contracts with Infogrames for two V-Rally games, but asserted its independence by signing a publishing agreement with Electronic Arts in 1999. In May 2002 the company was sold to the Infogrames Group (that later became Atari), which already held 19.8% of the company's shares. In September 2003 the name was changed to Eden Games S.A.S. Most recently, the studio is known for the Alone in the Dark reboot (2008) and the Test Drive Unlimited series.
If you are browsing PlayPile looking for a publisher that specializes in driving games, you will likely encounter Eden Games. This French developer was founded in 1998 as Eden Studios before changing its name to Eden Games S.A.S. in 2003. Although the data list shows them starting in 2015 with 19 active entries on our site, their actual history spans from 2002 to 2026. They released five games during the 2000s and another five in the 2010s. Their output increased in the 2020s with eight titles to date. The studio has a clear focus on racing, which accounts for 14 of their 19 listed games. They also work in simulator and sport genres, but they have dabbled in adventure, puzzle, shooter, arcade, and platform categories as well. Their work reaches many platforms, with ten titles on PC and seven on the Nintendo Switch. You can find their older games on PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360, while newer releases appear on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Quality trends for this developer show a mix of results rather than consistent greatness. Out of 11 rated titles, none reached the great tier above 80 points. Eight games landed in the good range between 60 and 79 points, while three others fell into the mixed category between 40 and 59. Their highest-rated game is Test Drive Unlimited from 2006, which holds a score of 78.6. V-Rally 3 from 2002 follows with 72.5, and Test Drive Unlimited 2 from 2011 scores 71.1. More recent entries like Smurfs Kart show lower scores around 67.5. Recent activity includes releases such as Cosmic Royale in late 2024 and Garfield Kart 2 in September 2025. They continue to push out racing content with Gear.Club Unlimited 3 scheduled for February 2026. While they have a long history starting with V-Rally games, their reputation rests heavily on the Test Drive series and the Alone in the Dark reboot from 2008. Their catalog remains steady but does not consistently deliver top-tier scores across all titles.
