At the end of 1996, the directors of Merit Studios (Europe) completed a Management Buy Back of the European Subsidiary from Merit Studios, Inc. The company was renamed Eutechnyx Limited, with the Infogrames Group acquiring a minority shareholding in the company. The exclusive distribution agreement with Infogrames ended in December 1999, after which time the directors of Eutechnyx reacquired total control of the shareholding of the company. From January 2000, Eutechnyx became a fully independent developer, producing innovative racing games for third party publishers.
Eutechnyx is a British studio founded in 1996 that operated as a developer and publisher until 2015. The company began after directors of Merit Studios (Europe) bought back their subsidiary from Merit Studios, Inc., with Infogrames Group taking a minority share. By December 1999, Eutechnyx ended its distribution deal with Infogrames and became fully independent to focus on racing games for third parties. Over nearly two decades, the studio released 23 titles on PlayPile, with 22 developed in-house and four published by them. Their work spans multiple platforms including PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the original PlayStation, though they never reached Nintendo Switch or modern mobile stores. The company concentrated heavily on racing simulations and sports games. Out of 23 total entries, 21 fall into the Racing genre, while nine are classified as Simulators. They also touched upon Sport, Arcade, Strategy, Real Time Strategy, and Indie categories with smaller counts. Their output grew from five games in the 1990s to ten in the 2000s before settling at eight titles in the 2010s. Despite this volume, their critical reception remains average at best. The 16 rated titles on PlayPile hold an average score of 58.2 out of 100. Their rating breakdown shows no great titles scoring above 80, ten good games between 60 and 79, four mixed entries from 40 to 59, and two poor scores below 40. Their highest-rated work includes NASCAR: The Game - Inside Line from 2012 with a score of 75 and Test Drive: Le Mans from 1998 at 73.4. Other notable titles include NASCAR '14 (72), Supercar Challenge (70), and Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli (67.5). In their final years, the studio faced significant criticism for some releases. Warhammer 40,000: Storm of Vengeance received a low 30 score in April 2014, while Ninja Cats vs Samurai Dogs scored just 50 later that same year. NASCAR '14 appeared earlier in 2014 with a better 72 rating, but the trend toward lower scores continued until their last release, NASCAR 15, in May 2015. Eutechnyx built a catalog defined by racing simulations and sports titles, yet their legacy is marked by inconsistent quality rather than consistent excellence.
