FUN Labs at a Glance

FUN Labs operated as a Romanian development studio active from 2001 to 2021 with a primary focus on shooter and sport titles. The company released 23 games across platforms ranging from PC and Xbox 360 to the Wii and PlayStation 2. During their first two decades, they produced fifteen games in the 2000s compared to only eight titles in the 2010s and 2020s combined. Their output shifted significantly after leaving Activision Publishing in 2016, when they began working on independent projects like The Walking Dead remasters and Stranded Deep console versions. The studio maintained an exclusive partnership with Activision for sixteen years, creating the Cabela's franchise along with work on Prototype, Transformers Fall of Cybertron, Angry Birds Trilogy, and NPPL Championship Paintball. Their highest-rated works came from this era, including Cabela's African Safari in 2006, Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2008 in 2007, and Cabela's Survival: Shadows of Katmai in 2011, all scoring 75 out of 100. Cabela's African Adventures and Cabela's Hunting Expeditions also achieved 70-point scores in 2013 and 2012 respectively. Despite these successes, the overall rating landscape for the studio is mixed to poor. An average IGDB score of 53.9 across ten rated titles shows zero games achieving a great status above 80 points. Six titles landed in the good range between 60 and 79, while four others fell below 40 points. Recent releases from FUN Labs do not match their earlier peak performance. Open Country released in May 2021 received a score of 35.5 out of 100. MIB: Alien Crisis from May 2012 scored only 20 out of 100. Nerf Legends came out in October 2021 without a specific rating listed in the available data. The studio's platform reach was broad, covering twelve games on Microsoft Windows and eleven each on Xbox 360 and Wii. FUN Labs closed their independent run when they were acquired by Maximum Entertainment on March 14th, 2023.
