Gamtec

Taiwan Founded 1989

Gamtec (Chinese: 三協資訊 pinyin: sān xié zī xùn) is a game developer and publisher based in Taichung City, Taiwan that was established in June 1989. The company developed a number of Mega Drive, NES/Famicom and PC games. They claimed to have developed for the Gamate, Super A'Can, arcade, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance. It often acted as a contract developer for other companies so it is frequently not credited in games it worked on. Gamtec has had a notable presence in Taiwan's gaming industry not only for being one of the most notable Tawianese Mega Drive developers, many of their members have either formed or joined other Taiwanese developers such as AV Artisan, Chuanpu Technology, Lonaisoft, Super Game, and Vast Fame. Much of their contract work has been done under a number of notable publishers; including possibly Bit Corp., Ka Sheng, Sintax, Sun Mixing, and SKOB.

Gamtec at a Glance

Gamtec is a game developer and publisher based in Taichung City, Taiwan. The company was established in June 1989 and remained active from 1990 through the year 2000. On PlayPile, they have a total of 19 games listed, where they appear as a publisher on 10 titles and as a developer on 18 titles. Their catalog is heavily focused on the Sega Mega Drive platform with 17 releases there. They also released two games for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and two for the Family Computer. The majority of their output falls within the Platform genre, which accounts for eight of their listed works. Other genres include Arcade with four titles, followed by Hack and slash or Beat 'em up games, Shooters, and single entries in Adventure, Fighting, Quiz/Trivia, and Simulator categories. The company saw a significant drop in activity during its second decade of operation. They released 17 games during the 1990s but only one game in the 2000s. That final release was A Bug's Life in December 2000. Earlier titles from their later years include Super Donkey Kong 99 in late 1999 and Adventurous Boy: Mao Xian Xiao Zi in late 1998. They also released versions of Super Mario Bros. 2 in 1998 and Pocket Monster in 1997. These titles suggest a focus on licensed products and existing franchises rather than original IP during this period. Gamtec often acted as a contract developer for other companies, which means they are frequently not credited in the games they actually worked on. Their bio lists work on various platforms including the Gamate, Super A'Can, arcade machines, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color, though PlayPile data reflects a much narrower scope of released titles on those systems. Many members from the company later formed or joined other Taiwanese developers such as AV Artisan and Chuanpu Technology. Their contract work involved publishers like Bit Corp., Ka Sheng, Sintax, Sun Mixing, and SKOB. While they were a notable developer in Taiwan's industry during the 90s, their output on this site is limited to older console games with no recent activity beyond the year 2000.
