Ninja Theory at a Glance

Ninja Theory is a United Kingdom based developer founded in 2004 that has released eleven games since 2007. Their catalog shows a clear preference for action focused titles within the Adventure and Hack and slash genres, accounting for fourteen of their listed credits across various projects. The studio maintains a strong presence on PC with seven titles available on Microsoft Windows, followed by PlayStation consoles which host four to five games each depending on the generation. They have also released content for Xbox platforms and more recently for VR headsets including PlayStation VR and SteamVR. The quality of their work appears generally positive but has seen some fluctuation over time. Across nine rated titles, the average score sits at 76.3 out of 100. Four games received great ratings above 80 while five others earned good scores between 60 and 79. Their highest acclaimed works include Enslaved: Odyssey to the West from 2010 and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice from 2017, which both scored over 84. Heavenly Sword from 2007 also reached an 80.2 rating. These early successes established their reputation for high production values and performance capture technology used in collaboration with figures like Andy Serkis. Output patterns show a significant shift between decades. The studio released only one game in the 2000s but expanded to seven titles during the 2010s. This pace slowed considerably in the 2020s where only two games have appeared so far. Recent releases reflect this slower schedule and mixed reception. Bleeding Edge launched in March 2020 with a score of 61, while Senua's Saga: Hellblade II arrived in May 2024 with a rating of 75.5. Dexed from September 2016 scored 63.3 and DmC: Devil May Cry Definitive Edition from 2015 reached 82.5. While the studio continues to push technical boundaries, their output frequency has dropped and not all recent projects have matched the acclaim of their earlier entries.
