RedLynx at a Glance

If you are browsing PlayPile looking for a Finnish developer with a long history, you should know about RedLynx. This studio was founded in Helsinki in 2000 and operated until 2019. They have released 24 games on the site where they acted as a developer 23 times and a publisher four times. The company is now part of Ubisoft, but during their independent run, they built a reputation across many different platforms. Their catalog shows a clear preference for racing titles. Out of their total output, 14 games fall into this genre. They also worked on eight platformers, six sports games, and six strategy games. Their reach spanned from PC to mobile devices like iOS and Android, with releases on N-Gage and Google Stadia as well. The majority of their work appeared in the 2000s when they published 14 titles, while the 2010s saw a slowdown with only 10 games released. Quality varies across their portfolio, but their peak was very high. They have one great title and seven good ones according to user ratings. Their best work is found in the Trials series. Trials HD from 2009 scored 79 points, while Trials Evolution in 2012 reached an impressive 82.1. Trials 2: Second Edition and Trials Fusion also performed well with scores above 77. MotoHeroz from 2011 is another standout with a 75 rating. However, their later years did not maintain that same level of critical acclaim. Trials Rising released in early 2019 and received a 73.7 rating, which is lower than the earlier entries in the franchise. South Park: Phone Destroyer from 2017 scored even lower at 61.8. While they had no titles rated as poor, their average score sits at 67.5, indicating that many of their projects were merely mixed or good rather than exceptional. The studio stopped releasing games after 2019, leaving behind a library defined by the Trials franchise and a few other genre experiments.
