Scriptwelder

Poland Founded 2010 Website

Scriptwelder is a single indie developer who is known for creating NES-style games with deep and involving narratives. Hello! My name is Matt, and I'm from Poland. Born in 1985 during gaming's budding adolescence. The first video games I played were on the NES knock-off called Pegasus. They fueled my drive to create my own games, but despite early attempts in Basic, Turbo Pascal, and even PowerPoint, I had to pause my dreams to actually create my own game for many years... ...until I discovered Flash! This was a tool that let me and many others like me express our creativity. It allowed us to make small games that could be easily accessed by people around the whole world!. Now, Flash is gone, and I'm still here. Keep your fingers crossed for me because being a solo full-time game dev is one bumpy ride!

Scriptwelder at a Glance

Scriptwelder is a Polish studio founded in 2010 by a single developer named Matt. He started his career after playing on an NES knock-off called Pegasus and later used Flash to build games for the web. The company has released 11 titles as a developer and two additional games as a publisher. Their catalog shows a heavy reliance on web browsers, with nine games designed for that platform. Only two titles are available on Windows and one on Mac. The developer focuses primarily on adventure games, which make up eight of their eleven releases. Seven of these titles fall into the point-and-click subgenre. They also explore puzzle and indie themes in six games each. Their output slowed significantly after 2019. The 2010s saw nine games released, while the 2020s have only produced two titles so far. This recent period includes Waterworks! from July 2020 and Deep Sleep: Labyrinth of the Forsaken scheduled for August 2025. Quality varies across their work but remains generally positive among rated entries. Four games on PlayPile have received IGDB scores, resulting in an average rating of 77.4 out of 100. Two titles earned great marks above 80, while two others scored in the good range between 60 and 79. The highest rated game is Don't Escape from 2013 with a score of 83.8. Its sequel, Don't Escape: 4 Days to Survive from 2019, follows closely at 81.1. Deep Sleep from 2012 and Deeper Sleep from 2013 also performed well with scores of 72.9 and 71.6 respectively. The studio is known for creating NES-style games that feature deep narratives, though Matt notes that working as a solo full-time developer remains a difficult path.
