Long before The Game Kitchen was born, its founders met each other and began learning how to make games. It was just a hobby at first; we had jobs somewhere else. Back then, we called ourselves "Nivel21 Entertainment". We made a few game prototypes and entered them into contests. The most remarkable one was "Rotor'scope: The Secret of the Endless Energy", which was awarded "2nd Prize" in DreamBuildPlay 2009.
The Game Kitchen is a Spanish studio that started in 2014, though its founders have been making games since at least 2009 under the name Nivel21 Entertainment. That early project, Rotor'scope: The Secret of the Endless Energy, won second prize in a 2009 contest before the team moved on to form their current company. Over more than a decade, they have released 11 games total as a developer and published two additional titles. Their catalog spans from 2014 through 2025, with six releases in the 2010s and five coming out in the 2020s. The output has remained steady without significant spikes or drops in volume. Genre-wise, the studio focuses heavily on Adventure games, which make up ten of their eleven titles. They also work frequently within the Indie space, with eight games fitting that label. Other genres include Hack and slash, Platform, Point-and-click, and RPGs. Most of their work is built for PC, appearing on Microsoft Windows in eight cases. PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch both host six of their games, while Xbox One has five. They also target Linux, Mac, iOS, Android, and next-gen consoles like Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, though these platforms see fewer entries. Quality control appears to be a strength for this developer. The average IGDB rating across seven rated titles is 79.8. Four games scored above 80, which counts as great, while three others fell between 60 and 79, marking them as good. There are no mixed or poor ratings in their tracked history. Their highest-rated work includes Blasphemous II, which holds an 86.5 score, followed by Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound at 85.3. The Last Door series also performed well, with both the original 2014 release and its 2016 sequel securing 80-point scores. Blasphemous remains a core part of their identity, appearing as a major hit in 2019 with a score of 79.4. Recent releases like All On Board! in early 2025 and the Legacy Edition of The Last Door in late 2022 show they are still active. Their portfolio demonstrates a consistent ability to deliver solid games, particularly in the adventure genre, without producing any content that critics consider poor.
