Whale Rock Games is a Ukrainian studio based in Kiev that has been active from 2016 through 2025. The team includes members who worked on major titles like Metro: LastLight, Dragon Age Inquisition, and several S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games before launching their first independent project, We Are the Dwarves, in 2016. Since then, they have published 21 games and developed 19 of them. Their output grew significantly over time, releasing only three titles in the 2010s compared to 15 games in the 2020s. The company focuses heavily on the indie genre, with 20 of their 21 games falling into that category. Adventure is their most common sub-genre, appearing in 16 titles, followed by Strategy, Shooter, and Simulator, which each have five entries. They also touch on sport, puzzle, racing, music, and visual novel genres. Their work reaches a wide range of platforms, with PC being the primary destination for 19 games. They also released titles for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, SteamVR, Linux, Mac, Nintendo Switch, Oculus VR, Oculus Quest, and Xbox Series X|S. Quality varies across their catalog but leans toward positive ratings. The average IGDB score is 70.9 out of 100 based on three rated titles. They have one great game that scored over 80, which is Deployment from 2018. Two other games received good scores between 60 and 79, including TimeLock VR with a 70 score and We Are the Dwarves at 62.8. No titles in their rated history fell into the mixed or poor categories. Recent activity shows they continue to release new content regularly. Their latest release is Dawn of Anarchy in January 2025. Before that, they put out The Wraith of the Galaxy in early 2023 and PolyClassic: Wild later that same year. They also returned with Time Lock VR 2 in mid-2022 and NeverSynth in late 2022. While their portfolio is not massive compared to AAA giants, their consistent output and solid average ratings suggest a stable operation for fans of indie adventure and strategy games on PC.
