WildTangent at a Glance

WildTangent is a Redmond, Washington based game network founded in 1998 that operates as a privately held company in the United States. While their bio states they power game services for manufacturers like Dell and HP with a catalog reaching over 20 million monthly players, PlayPile data shows a much smaller footprint of 24 games where WildTangent acted as publisher or developer. The company was most active between 2001 and 2013, producing 22 games in the 2000s and only 2 in the 2010s. Their output is heavily concentrated on PC with Microsoft Windows supporting 22 titles, while other platforms like Web browser, Mac, Xbox 360, and iOS account for just a few releases each. The genre focus for their own catalog includes Arcade games as the most common type with 8 titles, followed by Adventure and Shooter games with 3 each. Other categories include Role-playing, Sport, Racing, Puzzle, Simulator, Point-and-click, and Platform. The company started by producing advergames for brands like Nike, Coke, and Ford but no longer makes these products. They also distributed Sandlot Games before that developer rebranded. Their recent releases show a mix of casual sports titles such as Polar Bowler 1st Frame and Captain America: Shield of Justice alongside simulation games like Sealife Safari and Paradise Beach. Quality metrics from PlayPile indicate limited critical success for the few titles tracked here. The average IGDB rating across the single rated title is 61.1 out of 100. This score comes entirely from Fate, released in 2005, which stands as their top-rated title on this specific list. The breakdown shows one good game and no entries categorized as great, mixed, or poor. With only one reviewed entry, the data suggests a low volume of tracked critical reception compared to the thousands of games they claim to host or distribute through their network. Their role shifted over time from a developer of branded content to a distributor for major brands like Levis within Mall World and an operator of advertising sales for other gaming properties.
