Invincible VS Preview: Everything You Need to Know Before Launch

The Invincible animated series has one of the most committed fanbases in superhero media right now, and Skybound is finally giving them what they've been asking for: a fighting game where Omni-Man can beat the absolute hell out of pretty much everyone. Invincible VS launches April 30, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, bringing an 18-character roster of heroes and villains to a 3v3 tag fighter developed by Quarter Up.

For fighting game fans who've been paying attention, this one's been building momentum since the open beta earlier this month. The question now is whether it can deliver on the promise of translating those brutal, visceral fight scenes from the show into something that feels good to play.

Invincible VS is a 3v3 tag fighter in the vein of Marvel vs. Capcom or Dragon Ball FighterZ. You pick a team of three characters, swap between them mid-match, and use assists to extend combos or cover gaps in your approach. The tag format suits the source material well. The show constantly features team battles, betrayals, and chaotic multi-character fights. Seeing Atom Eve, Rex Splode, and Robot working together against a Viltrumite squad just makes sense.

Quarter Up has built each character around one of several archetypes. Conquest, for example, is labeled a "Striker" focused on armored attacks and raw pressure. He has a charging punch that builds speed and gains super armor, letting aggressive players bulldoze through opponents who try to interrupt. Other fighters lean toward zoning, grappling, or hybrid styles. The roster diversity matters here because team composition will define your gameplan.

The Launch Roster: 18 Characters to Pick From

At launch, you're getting 18 playable fighters. The full lineup includes Mark Grayson (Invincible), Atom Eve, Omni-Man, Battle Beast, Robot, Monster Girl, Rex Splode, Allen the Alien, Cecil Stedman, Thula, Bulletproof, Anissa, Lucan, Powerplex, Dupli-Kate, Titan, Ella Mental, and Conquest.

It's a solid spread. You've got the obvious picks like Mark and Omni-Man, fan favorites like Battle Beast and Allen, and some deeper cuts like Powerplex and Ella Mental for players who want to surprise their opponents. The roster does lean Viltrumite-heavy, which makes sense given the show's focus on that conflict, but it means some popular characters are missing at launch.

Angstrom Levy is the most notable absence. The Mauler Twins also didn't make the cut, and neither did Darkwing, Shrinking Rae, or Shapesmith. Skybound has confirmed DLC is coming. Universa and the Immortal are the first two post-launch characters, arriving sometime this summer. If the game sells well, expect the roster to expand significantly.

Six Arenas From the Invincible Universe

You'll be fighting across six stages at launch: Hometown Invasion (Night), The Moon, Ka-Hor's Tomb (Day), Himalayas, Kinetic Chamber, and the Training Room. These locations pull from memorable moments in the show. The Moon stage almost certainly references that infamous Omni-Man vs. Mark fight. Ka-Hor's Tomb ties into the Viltrumite lore. The Kinetic Chamber is where Robot trains, and it gives the roster a clean, tech-focused backdrop for competitive play.

Original Voice Cast Returns

One detail that matters more than you'd expect: the original voice actors from the Amazon series are reprising their roles. Steven Yeun as Mark, Sandra Oh as Debbie, J.K. Simmons as Omni-Man. Hearing familiar voices during matches adds authenticity that a lot of licensed fighting games miss. It's a small thing, but it helps Invincible VS feel like an extension of the show rather than a cash-in.

The Open Beta Set the Stage

The open beta ran April 9-11 on consoles, featuring 10 characters across three modes: Tutorial, Practice, and Ranked. Players who participated got a bonus Omni-Man skin for their trouble. Early impressions from the community were cautiously positive. The game runs smoothly, the animations capture the show's style, and the tag mechanics feel intuitive. Whether the netcode holds up at launch remains to be seen, but the foundation looks promising.

Release Details

Invincible VS launches April 30, 2026 at 10:00 AM PT. Platforms include PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. There's no word on a Switch 2 version yet, though that could change post-launch depending on performance. Pricing hasn't been officially confirmed as of this writing, but expect standard fighting game pricing in the $50-60 range.

Is It Worth Your Attention?

If you're a fighting game player and an Invincible fan, this is an easy sell. The 3v3 format works for the IP, the roster is substantial for a launch lineup, and the production values look strong. If you're only casually interested in fighters but love the show, the story mode and character authenticity might still pull you in.

The real test comes after launch. Fighting games live and die by their online communities and developer support. Quarter Up has already committed to DLC characters, which is a good sign. Whether Invincible VS can carve out a competitive scene or just be a fun way to settle arguments about which Viltrumite would win remains to be seen. Either way, April 30 can't come fast enough for fans who've been waiting to finally play as Battle Beast.
