Aerostar is a top-down shooter set in a post-apocalyptic Earth where humanity’s return sparks conflict with mutants. You control the titular fighter, using a mix of guns and jets to clear paths through hordes of enemies. The Game Boy’s limitations keep the action tight, with simple but responsive controls that make each firefight feel direct. Levels loop through wastelands and ruined cities, balancing exploration with waves of oncoming threats. Despite its 8-bit visuals, Aerostar stands out for its relentless pacing and escalating difficulty. Each stage throws more enemies at you, testing reflexes and ammo management. While not as well-known as some contemporaries, it’s a solid example of early ’90s portable shooting games. Players who enjoy straightforward combat and high tension might find it nostalgic. The game’s short length and repetitive enemies keep it from being essential, but the pure action remains satisfying.
