Altered Beast is a 2005 PlayStation 2 action game that revamps the 1988 arcade original. You play as Luke Custer, a cyborg with the ability to shift into various animal forms during combat. The gameplay mixes beat 'em up brawling with adventure elements as you fight through hordes of enemies. Each transformation grants unique abilities letting you punch kick and smash your way through levels. The remake introduces a fresh story where Luke wakes up after a crash with no memory. He must uncover his past while battling foes as a Genome-Cyborg. The game expands on the original with new moves and enemy types. While some may miss the arcade version’s simplicity others praise the added depth and updated visuals. It’s a nostalgic yet evolved take on a classic formula.

Storyline

The story follows a man called Luke Custer who is a "Genome-Cyborg", a human whose DNA and other genetic make-up has been artificially altered by micro-chips containing the genetic make-up of other creatures to transform him into an anthropomorphic beast. After surviving a helicopter crash, Luke loses his memory and sets off to learn about the truth behind his past and the Genome-Cyborgs memory his is back.
