Auto Racing is a straightforward racing game for Intellivision that lets you drive one of five vehicles with distinct handling traits. Choose between single player time trials or split screen head-to-head matches. In solo play you aim to complete five laps as fast as possible. The two player mode adds direct competition letting you earn points by forcing your opponent off track or pulling far enough ahead to hit the screen border. The split screen format was ahead of its time for 1980 making it one of the first console games to support local multiplayer racing. Players appreciate the simple but effective crash mechanics and the way each car feels slightly different to control. With five tracks and varying vehicle stats it holds up as a surprisingly durable arcade-style racer despite its age.
