"While Telltale delivers a generally accomplished graphic adventure in the strictest sense of the term, 'Back to the Future: The Game' is a title that ultimately, fails to live up to its pedigree. It's very consistent in what it does; yet it's overwhelming lack of ambition and general tendency to skate by on good feelings shortchanges its core demographic. In all reality, someone less familiar with 'Back to the Future' may find more pure value out of the title; fans will definitely want to give it a crack though with the warning that nostalgia only goes so far."

About

Back to the Future Part II & III is a side-scrolling adventure game where you play Marty McFly navigating time-travel mishaps across two eras. The gameplay splits into two distinct sections: first, dodging futuristic obstacles in 2015, then wrestling with 1950s small-town chaos. You’ll jump over hazards, pick up scattered objects, and solve basic puzzles to restore timeline order. The mechanics mix platforming and item management, with some arcade-style challenge. The second half shifts to a more linear setup as Marty deals with Doc’s 1885 predicament. The game drew unfavorable reviews for its short length and lack of save functionality. Most levels require completing in one sitting, which players found frustrating given the difficulty. Community ratings rarely exceed average, with complaints about repetitive design and a rushed feel compared to the first game. While fans of the films might enjoy the visual nods, the gameplay struggles to match the movies’ energy.

Storyline

The game follows the plot of the movies, the player controlling Marty as he travels to 2015 to prevent his future son from committing a crime, and then traveling back in time to try to correct Biff's nefarious deeds which altered the future significantly. Once part II ends, Marty becomes stranded in 1955 and receives a letter from the Doc from 1885 asking to be rescued. Much of this plot also focuses on Marty finding and returning items to their rightful locations.
