Beat Cop drops you into the grungy streets of 1980s New York as Jack Kelly, a down-on-his-luck cop wrongfully accused of murder. Between interrogations, evidence gathering, and chasing leads, you’ll handle the everyday drudgery of police work, ticketing jaywalkers, writing up reports, and dealing with bureaucratic nonsense. The point-and-click gameplay mixes inventory-based puzzles with dry, sardonic dialogue options that shape your interactions with crooked cops, hostile mobsters, and a spouse who’s more trouble than she’s worth. Pixel Crow’s retro-inspired visuals give the city a blocky, neon-drenched personality, while the script leans into dark humor to offset the noir tension. What sets Beat Cop apart is how seamlessly it weaves simulation mechanics with a murder mystery. Every shift feels like a balancing act between advancing the plot and handling mundane tasks like feeding your meter or avoiding hitmen. With 32 achievements, the hardest to earn is “Gotta catch’em all” at just 1.80% unlock rate, hinting at hidden challenges buried in the 72-hour workweek structure. Though released in 2017, its pixel art charm and caustic humor hold up, especially for players who enjoy figuring out convoluted paper trails and role-playing as a broken system’s last cog.
New York, more like a beast than a city. Explore its darkest corners and uncover its secrets as Jack Kelly, a former detective who has been framed for a murder. Degraded and forgotten by old pals, it’s your last chance to find the truth behind this whole terrible mess. The thing is, your new boss treats you like shit, your wife is a money sucking spawn from hell and the local mafia wants your head on a plate. I guess you could say, that things are complicated down here, in the middle of Brooklyn. Oh, and don’t forget about writing tickets, reprimanding pedestrians & such. You’re a beat cop after all.
