CD Battle: Hikari no Yuushi-tachi is a two-player showdown where each participant uses an audio CD to create a squad of three fighters. The game randomly assigns classes like warrior, mage, or ninja based on the CD’s track list leading into a turn-based duel. Battles play out with straightforward commands and class-specific moves but no character progression or story. The pixel art and menu design echo early 90s JRPGs even though the gameplay strips away role-playing elements entirely. The biggest hook is the CD-driven character pool which changes with every disc swapped in. Released in 1993 exclusively for the Turbografx-16 CD it’s now a rare artifact for collectors. While it lacks depth compared to tactical battle games of the era fans appreciate its bold gimmick and retro charm. A footnote in gaming history but still oddly compelling for short competitive sessions.
