About

Chou Majin Eiyuu-den Wataru Another Step follows a plucky kid thrust into a fantasy world where he must save a land called Sokaizan. The PlayStation RPG leans into its anime roots with colorful visuals and quirky character designs. Combat alternates between three distinct styles including real-time action and turn-based mechanics adding variety to encounters. Exploration is straightforward with a focus on dialogue and quests that highlight the cast's oddball personalities. The game stands out for its lighthearted tone and emphasis on camaraderie as Wataru bonds with allies through shared adventures. While not widely discussed in modern circles it retains a cult following among retro RPG enthusiasts. Its 1998 release date places it in a niche era of Japanese role-players with a distinct charm that blends fantasy and slapstick humor. The story prioritizes heart over complexity making it a brisk if unconventional choice for fans of older console RPGs.

Storyline

The story is about a 9-year old boy named Wataru Ikusabe who is magically transported to a magical realm of the gods called Sokaizan which he is supposed to save. He also befriends many of the Soukaizan natives, and forms some very strong friendship bonds.
