Clash at Demonhead is a 1989 platformer where you control Billy Blitz, a fighter who collects special energy called Force to unlock abilities. Early on you swing a gun and hop between levels but later gain powers like shrinking to slip through tight spaces teleporting to earlier areas or zipping through the air. Each level has specific goals and you pick them freely from a large map with over 40 routes. You spend in-game cash at a shop to upgrade weapons and boost stats which helps tackle tougher challenges. The game stands out for its open structure letting you tackle levels in any order and for the variety of abilities that change how you explore. Its 1980s design feels nostalgic but the flexible progression system and dense route count still offer satisfying exploration. With its mix of combat upgrades and creative power combinations it earned a cult following among retro fans. Released on Nintendo systems it remains a forgotten gem with over 40 distinct levels built for replayability.
