About Diablo Immortal

Diablo Immortal is a mobile-first action RPG from Blizzard, released in June 2022. It bridges the gap between Diablo II and III, focusing on a world torn apart by the shattered Worldstone and corrupted by Diablo’s forces. Available on PC, Android, and iOS, it mixes solo play with multiplayer co-op. The game leans into loot-driven progression, skill customization, and fast-paced combat. Blizzard promised a free-to-play model with in-game purchases, which stirred controversy among fans. While it retains the series’ signature chaos and class variety, its mobile roots and monetization model made it a polarizing entry in the franchise.

Gameplay

Combat in Diablo Immortal revolves around dodging, skill-switching, and farming for better gear. You pick from six classes, each with unique abilities, and grind through procedurally generated zones to collect loot. Missions include story quests, world bosses, and PvP arenas. Mobile players use touch controls, while PC versions offer keyboard/mouse precision. A typical session might involve soloing a dungeon for rare drops or teaming up for a group raid. The action is tight but repetitive, with progression heavily tied to resource management. Crafting and gear upgrades add layers, but the focus remains on loot loops and power scaling.

What Players Think

Community reception is split. On IGDB, it holds a 48/100 average (93 ratings), reflecting strong criticism. Playtime data shows 20-30 hours for main story, but many quit early due to monetization concerns. Achievement completion rates are low, only 12% finish 100% of tasks. Reviews highlight the game’s chaotic fun but lament pay-to-win mechanics and clunky mobile controls. One user wrote, “Feels like a cash grab, but the combat is addictive.” Others praised the accessibility for mobile play. The PC port improved visuals but didn’t resolve core frustrations.

PlayPile's Take

Diablo Immortal is a mixed bag. It offers solid action-RPG mechanics and class variety, ideal for fans craving on-the-go gameplay. However, the aggressive monetization and mobile-first design alienated many. At no cost to play, it’s worth trying for casual players or those invested in the series, but prepare for grinding and microtransaction hurdles. Achievements are plentiful but shallow, with 225 total. It’s a divisive title, enjoyable in short bursts but unlikely to satisfy long-time fans expecting a traditional Diablo experience.

Storyline

The story of Diablo Immortal is set between the events of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction and Diablo III. The Worldstone lies shattered, yet great power remains within its corrupted fragments. Power that Diablo’s minions hope to harness to bring about the return of the Lord of Terror. The Archangel Tyrael is presumed dead, and mankind is left to deal with the aftermath of his actions. Fragments of the corrupted Worldstone taint the land, bringing forth ancient evils who are looking to harvest the stone’s power and use it to control humanity.
