By focusing on creating well-designed, highly enjoyable entertainment experiences, Blizzard Entertainment has maintained an unparalleled reputation for quality since its inception.
Blizzard Entertainment is a United States-based publisher and developer that has been active from 1994 through 2024. The company has placed 48 games on PlayPile, with the majority appearing as both publishers and developers. Their catalog spans four decades, starting with just four titles in the 1990s and growing to six in the 2000s. Output increased significantly in the following years, reaching 18 releases in the 2010s and 16 in the 2020s. While they have released games on mobile devices and consoles like Xbox and PlayStation, their work is primarily focused on PC with 42 titles for Microsoft Windows and 25 for Mac. The studio shows a strong preference for Role-playing games, Strategy, and Real Time Strategy formats. They have produced 23 RPGs, 12 Strategy titles, and another 12 in the Real Time Strategy category. Other genres include Adventure, Hack and slash, and Shooter games, though these appear less frequently. The overall reception of their work is quite positive. Out of 24 rated titles on PlayPile, the average score sits at 77.3. Fourteen of these games received great ratings above 80, while seven fell into the good range. Only three games received mixed or poor scores. Their highest-rated works come from the early years and the turn of the millennium. Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos scored 90.5 in 2002, followed by Diablo II at 89.1. StarCraft and its sequel also achieved high marks of 88.5 and 88.4 respectively. However, recent releases show a wider variance in quality. Overwatch earned a solid 76.1 score in 2023, and the Diablo IV expansion remains unranked on PlayPile but is part of their modern lineup. In contrast, Warcraft Rumble scored 60.1, and the remastered versions of Warcraft I and II released in late 2024 received much lower scores of 37.2 and 71.5 respectively. The data suggests that while their classic titles are widely praised, newer entries and remakes have not always matched the high standards set by their earlier work.
