Dokapon! Ikari no Tetsuken is a quirky board game with RPG mechanics that leans into chaos and simplicity. Players roll a virtual dice to move across a grid, landing on spaces that trigger fights, loot drops, or shop visits. Battles switch to 3D turn-based combat where you pick attacks and abilities to defeat monsters. Progress unlocks new areas of the kingdom, and the goal is to clear threats while managing resources like health and gold. Up to four players can team up locally for split-screen chaos or go solo. The game stands out for its straightforward mix of luck and strategy, with eight knights offering varied playstyles. Released in 1998 but ported to later PlayStation systems, it retains a cult following for its frantic, family-friendly energy. The blend of board game randomness and RPG grinding creates a niche experience that feels more chaotic than refined but works best as a lighthearted multiplayer diversion.
In the Dokapon Kingdom all the people loves money, but one day in this peaceful land the monsters appear and attack the castle and the villages. The people are struck down to poverty and the King doesn't get any taxes, so he decided to call 4 brave knights to destroy all those monsters. The player (or players) control one of those knights (there are 8 different characters to choose each of them with different attacks and characteristics) and start destroying the monsters in the castle. the gameplay is about using a roulette to see how many squares the player can advance, in those squares can be items, magic items, traps, inns, shops, enemies.
