Asmik Ace, Inc. (Japanese: アスミック・エース株式会社, Hepburn: Asumikku ēsu kabushikigaisha), formerly Asmik Ace Entertainment, Inc. (アスミック・エース エンタテインメント株式会社, Asumikku ēsu entateinmento Kabushiki gaisha) is a Japanese film production and distribution company. In the past, the company has distributed video games. It was formed in 1997 through a merger between the Asmik Corporation and Ace Entertainment, both of Japan. The name Asmik comes from its three founding companies: Ask (formerly ASK-Kodansha), Sumitomo and Kodansha. The company is headquartered on the third floor of the Lapiross Roppongi building in Minato, Tokyo, and is a wholly owned division of Jupiter Telecommunications (J:COM). Asmik Corporation was founded in 1985 as a subsidiary to the Sumitomo Corporation of Japan. Its focus was in the area of video games for the video game console market, specifically the NES. It quickly moved on to distribute motion pictures in Japan, and won several awards for doing so. It once had a North American subsidiary, Asmik Corporation of America.[citation needed] Asmik Ace Entertainment has produced games for the Dreamcast, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PC Engine, Mega Drive/Genesis, Super NES, Nintendo 64, and GameCube, and distributes high quality films for the Japanese movie market.
Asmik Ace Entertainment is a Japanese company founded in 1985 that has released 37 games on PlayPile. The firm operated as both a publisher and developer, with 32 titles under its publishing arm and 13 developed in-house. Their history spans from 1989 to 2020, though their output was not consistent across these decades. The vast majority of their work came during the 1990s when they released 23 games. They produced 12 titles in the 2000s and only one game each in the 1980s and 2020s. This pattern shows a sharp decline in activity after the turn of the millennium. The company focused heavily on specific genres, with Role-playing games being their top category at 10 titles. They also released 8 Simulator games and 8 Strategy games. Adventure and Sport titles rounded out their catalog with 7 and 6 releases respectively. Their platform reach was most significant on the PlayStation system, where they published 12 games. The Super Famicom saw 10 releases, while the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo 64, and PlayStation 2 each hosted four titles. They also touched the Game Boy, Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation Vita, and Sega Saturn with smaller counts of two or one game each. Quality trends for Asmik Ace are mixed rather than consistently high. Their average IGDB rating sits at 63.9 out of 100 across seven rated titles. The breakdown shows one great title scoring above 80, four good titles between 60 and 79, one mixed title in the 40 to 59 range, and one poor title below 40. Lethal Skies II from 2003 stands out as their highest-rated game with a score of 81. WCW/nWo Revenge and WWF WrestleMania 2000 also performed well with scores in the mid-70s. However, Dokapon DX: Wataru Sekai ha Oni Darake from 2003 received a low score of 33. Recent releases like My Next Life as a Villainess appeared in April 2020, but their overall volume remains small compared to larger industry players.
