Kratos battles to break free from his cursed past in this action-packed prequel. Playing as the vengeful warrior, you fight through mythic foes and figure out a story set before the events of earlier games. The single-player campaign mixes brutal melee combat with strategic boss fights while the multiplayer mode pits players against each other in arena brawls. Kratos remains chained to his rage as he navigates a mythos involving ancient deities and broken oaths. The Special Edition bundles physical extras like a steelbook case and original soundtrack with the game. A dynamic PS3 theme and avatar pack add extra flair for collectors. Multiplayer progression gets a boost through double XP unlocks. While the 2013 release date means this is older than newer entries in the series, it remains a solid entry for players familiar with Kratos' lore-driven gameplay. The focus on fast combat and mythological stakes carries over smoothly from prior titles.
In a war between the astronomically large deities known as the Primordials, the madness and rage of the war took form, becoming the three guardians of honor, the Furies, who were tasked with exacting retribution onto any oath-breaker or betrayer. The first victim of the Furies was the Hecatonchires, Aegaeon, who had broken a blood oath to Zeus himself. The Furies set about their task, and, believing death to be too kind for one who had broken an oath to a God, transformed Aegaeon's humongous body into a stone prison for all who would dare follow his example in the future.
