About Hitman: Contracts

Hitman: Contracts dropped in April 2004 as the third entry in IO Interactive's stealth series. You control Agent 47, a genetically engineered assassin working for the mysterious Agency. The story opens with him waking up wounded in a Paris hotel room, triggering flashbacks to past missions that led him here. This title brings back four locations from the original Codename 47 while introducing eight new stages across the globe. It launched on PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation 2 during an era when stealth shooters were trying to prove they could be more than just run-and-gun alternatives.

Gameplay

Sessions involve stalking targets through crowded venues or quiet offices while scanning for guards and civilians. You can disguise yourself by picking up uniforms, then walk right past security checkpoints to reach your mark. Combat offers a mix of silenced pistols, melee takedowns, and environmental traps like falling chandeliers or poison injections. The game tracks how you complete each objective, rewarding silent eliminations over shooting sprees. Players must memorize patrol routes and find the right moment to strike without raising alarms. Failure means starting a mission over, so patience pays off more than fast reflexes.

What Players Think

Current player sentiment shows an average rating of 73.5 out of 100 based on 304 IGDB reviews. Most players spend around 8 to 12 hours completing the main campaign without rushing. Community moods lean toward nostalgic and methodical, with many users praising the level design complexity. Achievement hunters note that hitting all optional objectives requires multiple playthroughs per mission. Review snippets frequently mention the satisfaction of executing a perfect disguise run or using a specific weapon combo. The game remains popular despite its age because the sandbox levels allow for creative problem solving every time you load up.

PlayPile's Take

This title works best for players who enjoy planning routes and testing their patience rather than shooting everything in sight. The $0.69 price tag on GameBillet makes it a no-brainer purchase even if the graphics feel dated. You will earn several achievements related to stealth kills, but expect frustration when guards spot you early. It is not for anyone looking for a fast-paced action shooter. Go play this if you want to practice your disguise game and learn every corner of a map before making a move.

Storyline

The game begins in Paris as a wounded Agent 47 finds himself trapped in a dingy hotel room. As he lapses in and out of consciousness he experiences flashbacks from some of his most harrowing missions. Hitman Contracts explores the darker psychology of killing for a living and is our most graphic effort yet in the series. Hitman Contracts delivers more action-packed and suspense-filled missions with a greater variety of ways to make the perfect kill. An increased arsenal of firearms, close combat weapons and new ‘take-down’ moves will be at your disposal allowing you to perform a wide range of brutal ‘hits’. The game features 12 levels set in various locations where you must come face to face with some of the world’s most dangerous criminals and high profile targets.
