IndyCar Racing II is a detailed racing simulation where you drive open wheel cars across 15 tracks. The game offers multiple driving views realistic physics and a damage system that affects performance. During races you can check fuel tires and other car stats. It includes interactive driving schools and improved AI. The game supports two player multiplayer and features in game communication with pit crews using speech recognition a tech feature that was ahead of its time. Graphics are rendered in 640x480 SVGA with digital stereo sound. What stands out is the inclusion of speech recognition for pit communication which added a layer of realism in 1995. The modding community created custom car sets extending the game’s lifespan. Released in late 1995 for PC Mac and DOS it built on NASCAR Racing’s improvements. While the single player focus might limit replayability for some the detailed simulation and mod support kept players engaged.
