Jeanne d'Arc is a tactical RPG that mixes medieval history with fantasy twists. You lead a small band of fighters through turn-based battles, using weapons and magical armlets to counter demon-possessed enemies. The story follows a village girl guided by divine voices to defend France during the Hundred Years' War. Combat emphasizes positioning and resource management, with characters gaining new abilities as they level up. The game blends real historical figures with fictional magic systems, creating a strategic challenge that feels both familiar and quirky. The game’s strongest element is its odd fusion of fact and fiction. Real-life soldiers and leaders appear alongside cursed kings and enchanted gear, giving the conflict a mythic edge. Tactical depth comes from managing armlet abilities and exploiting enemy weaknesses, though the PSP’s controls can feel clunky at times. With 40 hours of content and a narrative that leans into both historical drama and over-the-top fantasy, it appeals to fans of thoughtful strategy. The 2006 release still holds up for its clever reimagining of a historic era.
In the past, there was a great war between humans and demons. Five heroes created five magical armlets and used their combined power to seal the demons away. Much time has passed, and now France and England are in the midst of the Hundred Years' War. Domrémy, a small village in the Lorraine region of France, was celebrating a festival when suddenly English soldiers attacked. A village girl, Jeanne, was led by a voice from the heavens to save France. Thus begins the journey of Jeanne, and her friends Roger and Liane, in the war to free their country from the tyranny of the demon-controlled English army.
