About Just Cause 4

Avalanche Studios returned in late 2018 to deliver Just Cause 4 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. This shooter adventure centers on Rico Rodriguez exploring the fictional South American nation of Solis. The game features four distinct environments including rainforests, grasslands, alpine regions, and deserts. A major shift this time involves dynamic weather systems that actively reshape the battlefield. Players encounter tornadoes and extreme storms alongside standard open-world exploration. Square Enix published this title as a standalone single-player experience focusing on chaos and movement rather than narrative depth.

Gameplay

You spend your time crossing Solis using Rico's upgraded grapple hook, wingsuit, and parachute. The hook allows you to attach to almost any surface or vehicle for rapid traversal. You can chain multiple hooks together to swing over massive distances or drag enemies into the air. Weather events drive the core loop since tornadoes and rainstorms alter physics and visibility in real time. You complete missions by destroying targets while managing these environmental hazards. The game tracks 61 achievements with most players unlocking just a fraction of them. Typical sessions involve flying around to find new ways to cause destruction or racing across biomes before a storm hits.

What Players Think

Critics and players gave Just Cause 4 a mixed reception. Metacritic holds it at 68 out of 100 while IGDB lists a score of 67.7 from 157 ratings. Completion rates show most people do not finish the main story or hunt every trophy. The average unlock rate for achievements sits at 11.6 percent across the entire set. Only 1.30 percent of players managed to unlock the rarest trophy titled "Rico was Here." This low completion suggests many owners bought it for the physics engine and left after the initial novelty wore off. The community moods reflect a game that feels fun in bursts but lacks long-term engagement hooks compared to its predecessors.

PlayPile's Take

This title works best if you want to break things without caring about story or mission structure. The price point matters since many will not finish the 61 available achievements. You should play it only if you enjoy physics-based chaos over traditional gameplay loops. Most players stop after a few hours once the weather gimmicks feel repetitive. The low unlock rates prove that deep engagement is rare for this title. Grab it on sale if you want to test the tornado mechanics without committing to a full career run.
