About Kane & Lynch: Dead Men

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men launched in November 2007 under IO Interactive and Eidos Interactive. You play as two criminals trapped in a death row breakout gone wrong. Adam Kane is an ex-military mercenary while James Lynch is his unstable partner. The story kicks off when they are forced to work with each other after a gang called The 7 kidnaps Kane's family for stolen money. They have three weeks to fix their mistake or lose their loved ones. This shooter dropped on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. It features single player campaigns alongside split-screen co-op and multiplayer modes. The game focuses on two very different personalities trying to survive a violent urban war zone while dealing with each other's baggage.

Gameplay

You control both Kane and Lynch during squad-based firefights where you issue orders or switch between characters instantly. A core mechanic forces Lynch to panic if he takes too much damage or sees his partner die, which can break your cover and alert enemies. Combat feels frantic because you constantly manage the health of two people at once rather than just one avatar. The game does not let you hide behind any real tactical depth since enemies often spawn around corners with automatic weapons. You move from cover to cover in third-person perspective while your partner provides suppressive fire or flanks targets. Multiplayer modes let you team up locally or online to complete the same scripted missions. Control schemes feel clunky at times because switching focus between partners can interrupt your aim during intense gunfights.

What Players Think

The PlayPile community has rated this title with an average score of 62.3 out of 100 based on 150 IGDB ratings. Most players spend around 8 hours in the campaign before quitting. Completion rates stay low since many users find the difficulty spikes frustrating without much reward. Community moods lean toward "frustrated" and "memorable" rather than "fun." Review snippets often mention the weird AI behavior where Lynch screams or shoots allies when scared. Some players appreciate the co-op split-screen option but note that online servers are long dead. The average playtime suggests people tried a few missions then stopped. Very few users reached 100% completion on any platform. Critics and fans agree the story is intense even if the execution falls short of expectations for a modern shooter.

PlayPile's Take

This game only makes sense if you want to see a chaotic story where partners fight each other as much as the bad guys. The price usually sits low on secondary markets since it lacks replay value. You will earn a few achievements mostly by surviving specific missions rather than mastering mechanics. PlayPile suggests skipping this unless you have nostalgia for 2007 era shooters or want to test the broken AI yourself. It is not worth full price today given the stiff competition from better titles released later. The co-op mode offers some fun moments with a friend but technical issues drag it down quickly. Finish it if you need something short and violent to play through in one weekend.

Storyline

The game opens with a voiceover of Adam 'Kane' Marcus, reading a letter addressed to his daughter Jenny. Kane is traveling to death row after being convicted of manslaughter. Another death row inmate, James Seth Lynch, lets on there will be a breakout. Their truck is involved in a head-on collision by a group of mercenaries. The two are taken to a construction site, where they are confronted by four members of a gang of criminals called The 7, led by The Brothers and their henchmen Carlos (a close friend of Kane) and Mute. They accuse Kane of stealing money from them, and reveal that they have taken his wife and daughter hostage. Kane is given three weeks to retrieve the money or his wife and daughter will be killed.
