KKnD throws you into a brutal post-nuke war between two factions scrambling to dominate Earth’s last resources. Command a base, build units, and crush enemies in real time across 30 single-player missions split between the underground survivors and the mutated surface dwellers. The 1997 PC game leans heavy on resource management and unit micro, with a focus on fast-paced combat and tech upgrades. Multiplayer lets up to six players clash in chaotic skirmishes, though the map pool feels light by modern standards. The game’s mod support and custom map community kept it alive long past its release, fueling a dedicated following. With a 8.2/10 average on GG, players praise its addictive RTS loop and distinct faction identities. The underground faction relies on stealth and mechs while the surface group brute-forces with tanks and bio-weapons. While the unit models look blocky by today’s standards, the strategic depth and competitive potential still hold up for classic RTS fans.
In the year 2079 conflicts arose between the major nations of Earth. A nuclear war resulted of this and the surface of the planet was destroyed. Some humans managed to burrow under the Earth's crust before the nukes obliterated the upper world, taking with them what they could salvage. They turned their attention to constructing machines to resurface. Those who survived the blasts yet lived above ground mutated, and dominated the Earth until the survivors broke through the Earth's surface and an armed conflict between the two groups erupted.
