Kozue's Strange Journey is a turn-based RPG that blends old-school strategy with spooky storytelling. You play as a college student who gets dragged into a nightmare after encountering shadowy creatures during a midnight errand. Partnering with a cryptic ally, you’ll track down missing persons while battling twisted foes using a combat system that rewards timing and positioning. Each fight lets you chain attacks, exploit weaknesses, and chain bonus turns to grind through hordes of enemies. The narrative unfolds through sparse but unsettling dialogue, letting the creepy environments and ambient sounds build tension. This 2020 indie title carved out a niche with its moody aesthetic and deliberate pacing. While the pixel art and synth-heavy soundtrack evoke 90s RPGs, the focus on atmospheric dread sets it apart from more action-oriented entries in the genre. Players appreciate the tactical depth of combat and the way the story hints at cosmic horror without overexplaining. Available only on PC, it’s a lean but polished experience that lingers long after the credits roll.
One night, when Kozue Kato realizes she's forgotten some paperwork at her university, she decides to make a late-night trip to grab it. However, when large dark beasts appear during her errand, she barely escapes with her life thanks to the help of a mysterious woman named Sayuri Shirasagi. Not all is well, though. Soon reports of people going missing begin to spread. Kozue and Sayuri suspect the creatures and disappearances are related, and they decide to team up to investigate.
